So what exactly do we know?

Regardless of sex or race, after you reach the age of 30, your body naturally starts to lose its ability to maintain muscle mass and to produce natural energy and strength. So what does this mean for you? This means that activities such as walking, running, jumping, losing weight, increasing your metabolism, producing body heat, maintaining stability and moving objects will be greatly hindered. Living a sedentary lifestyle only magnifies these problems.

Effects of Aging on Muscle.

Research is pretty clear on what happens to our bodies when we age. 
    • You will start to lose muscle mass through a process called Sarcopenia.
    • Atrophy will cause a decline in muscle mass resulting in a decrease in the number and size of muscle fibers
    • Due to muscle loss, strength declines by 15% per decade in the 5th, 6th, and 7th decades and by 30% per decade thereafter.
    • Blood flow will decrease.
    • Muscle capillary density decreases with age, decreasing blood flow and oxygen extraction.
    • You will lose muscle size.

    • Due to decreases in muscle mass, losing body fat will be more difficult.
    • We also know that sedentary individuals will lose 20%-40% of their muscle mass over the course of adult life.
    • Extensive losses of muscle mass, strength, and function during acute hospitalization cause prolonged recovery. 
    • Loss of muscle is known to be detrimental to survival from cancer.
    • Survival from severe burn injuries is lowest in individuals with reduced lean body mass.
    • Both cardiac failure and cancer are often associated with rapid and extensive loss of muscle mass, strength and metabolic function (cachexia).
    • The maintenance of large muscle mass and consequent muscle protein turnover can contribute to the prevention of obesity.

    So what can you do?

    To simplify how Gen X Muscle works to help you produce energy and strength, we'd thought we would take you back a few years.  For those of us who can remember taking Biology (and physiology), in between dissecting frogs and memorizing the Periodic table, hopefully you can recall the lesson plans discussing bioenergetics and cellular respiration. In short, cellular respiration converts biochemical energy (food) into energy (Adenosine Triphosphate-ATP aka energy). Nutrients mostly used in cellular respiration are glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids (e.g. Creatine, Taurine, etc.) There are numerous studies which all conclude that age related muscle loss can be slowed, prevented, and even reversed through the use of a good resistance training program, nutrition and supplementation. This is where Gen-X Muscle comes in.  The ingredients in our Pre-workout and 100% Instantised Whey Isolate Protein have been proven to increase muscle mass. 

    For starters, we use not one, but two forms of Creatine (Creatine Monohydrate and Creatine Hydrochloride) for various reasons.  Hands down, Creatine Monohydrate or CM has been proven to build muscle, strength and power.  However, it has other benefits as well. CM increases the water content of your muscles which is a process called cell volumization. Cell volumization increases the size of your muscles.  Also, keep in mind,  since muscles are 70% to 80% water, it's important to ensure you have enough water content in your muscle fibers. Creatine Hydrochloride or Creatine HCL, has the same properties as CM minus the introduction of water into the muscle fibers. Creatine HCL has a faster absorption rate than CM, making it more readily available to your body for faster energy production.   

    Studies show creatine supplementation, alone, increased muscle mass in 60-80 year olds by 3.3kg/7.3lbs and can increase athletic performance, muscular endurance and strength. Click to read this study.


    We added Bioperine which has been proven to increase the bioavailability (amount of the ingredient your body uses.) of amino acids and CoQ10.  This means that your body will use more of the ingredients in our Pre-workout such as our Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs), Creatine, Taurine and CoQ10. In one study, BioPerine increases the bioavailability of CoQ10 by 30%.



    To increase blood flow we added another amino acid, L-Citrulline which creates nitric oxide (NO) which opens up or dilates blood vessels.  By doing so, this ensures that the nutrients needed for muscle growth are right where you want them to be. Through research L-Citrulline has been proven to increase blood flow in test subjects. L-Citrulline has also been shown to improve the symptoms of erectile dysfunction....just saying.
